The Company won the vehicle security awards with four different models. Citroën’s stylish C6 picked up the top spot in the Executive class for the second year in a row, as did the C4 Picasso Exclusive, clinching the Compact MPV accolade. The recently launched C5 Exclusive and popular C4 Exclusive dominated the family vehicle categories, taking both the Family and Small Family titles respectively. Keeping occupants safe and secure, as well as thwarting smash and grab opportunists, the Company uses laminated glass on more models than any other manufacturer, further contributing to its BICSA wins. The glass and plastic sandwich construction enables windows to maintain their integrity, even after numerous blows. Citroën’s success at this year’s event means the Company has now received an unprecedented fourteen security accolades since the British Insurance Car Security Awards were launched just five years ago. This project, which will run over several months, relates to the development, the manufacture and the use of an electric powertrain for small urban vehicles. To step up the viability of electric vehicle projects and accelerate market introduction, the companies agreed that cooperation on electric vehicle development and production would be mutually beneficial. This new agreement reinforces the bonds between the two manufacturers who, a week ago, laid the first stone of their joint Russian factory, in Kaluga (180 km south west of Moscow). For PSA Peugeot Citroën, this agreement lies within the scope of its Strategy and Ambition plan covering 2010-2015, which should maintain the PSA Group’s leadership in environmentally friendly cars. With an extensive knowledge of electric vehicles, PSA Peugeot Citroën is the largest global manufacturer of electric vehicles to date with more than 10 000 units sold. PSA Peugeot Citroën will bring to this project its expertise in the field of electric powertrains. For MMC this agreement is consistent with its electric vehicle strategy. MMC, aiming to become one of the leading car manufacturers of electric vehicles, has prioritised development of the i MiEV new-generation electric vehicle for introduction to the market. MMC will launch the electric vehicle in the Japanese domestic market in 2009 and is considering a possible future introduction to Europe and the U.S. In addition, MMC has set up Lithium Energy Japan, a Joint Venture founded in partnership with GS Yuasa and Mitsubishi Corporation, which is to supply large capacity and high performance lithium ion batteries for the i MiEV. A replica of the Citroën Xsara WRC, as driven by Colin McRae in the 2003 World Rally Championship will be showcased at the event’s Forest Rally Stage paddock, alongside ten other significant vehicles from the late rally champion’s career. This will form part of a special tribute to the Scottish racing legend. Over at the circuit’s Technology Pavillion, Citroën’s stunning concept supercar, the C-Métisse, will also be on display, making its first ever appearance in the UK. With its aviation-inspired cockpit, gull-wing doors and ‘fighter jet’ style roof controls, the C-Métisse, which debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 2006, proved that a high performance car could also be green. Capable of a top speed of 155mph, the exceptionally stylish and super-futuristic Citroën has the ability to cover 45 miles per gallon on the combined cycle and emits just 174g/km of CO2 thanks to its three drive trains – an economical 208bhp V6 HDi diesel engine, plus two separate electric motors on the rear wheels to develop an additional 400Nm of torque and allow the car to run in Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mode. The specially designed carbon fibre body reduces the car’s total weight to just 1,400kg including the batteries, enabling the C-Métisse to hit 0-62mph in just 6.2 seconds. A ‘boost’ function activated under heavy acceleration, engages the electric motors to combine with the combustion engine, enhancing the power and performance without increasing the fuel consumption. Postal votes must be received by 1st July, or votes can also be cast in person at the AGM on 12th July. Another GS entered by Damian and Marie Ancellin finished in 4th place. To put this into perspective, there were 41 finishers out of 44 entrants. This is a fantastic result which serves to strengthen the GS's credentials as a historic rally contender.
