Technical Weekends for DS owners.

Technical Weekends are held throughout the UK, typically from April to October. They are designed to be hands on events where owners are encouraged to learn maintenance and repair jobs with expert tuition. Each Weekend will have a number of expert tutors who have given their time freely and a new owner can expect a warm welcome.

Jobs tackled can range from routine servicing and setting up of the semi-auto gearchange, to maintenance and repair of the Hydraulic system.

Tips on ownership and buying are freely given and the weekends serve as an invaluable opportunity to meet local members and experts who can help maintain your car in tip top condition.

Many of our tutors are full time mechanics specialising in the DS and ID, others are retired but happy to pass on knowledge to the next generation. The Weekends are free of charge apart from a modest donation to the club and are held all over the country at regular intervals. Lunch times and evenings everyone gets together for a meal and chat about the days events making this a highly sociable and fun event.

If you are interested in attending a future Technical Weekend, please contact Paul Noon for details of events planned for the forthcoming year, or contact the local co-ordinator for any event you see written about in the Citroenian (details appear under the D-Info Special column).

The calendar of events for 2010 includes:

  • July 31-August 1 : DS Technical Weekend, Citroen Classics’ workshop, Staines, near London
  • September 17 – 27 : French Technical Week, La Sicaudrie, Charente

Darrin Brownhill is hosting an event at his workshops in Staines, near SW London on 31 July-1 August. This has the added benefit of plenty of hardstanding for the cars, and is secure should any cars need to be left there overnight. With a bit of luck we may be blessed with some fine weather at that time of year too. Darrin is planning to hold the event on both days of the weekend, but if anyone wants to vary their weekend, or manages to bring their car to tip-top condition by mid-morning on the Saturday, the workshops are very near central Staines and it’s shops, and right next to the river Thames with plenty of walks nearby. There are also regular trains into central London from Staines station which is only 20mins walk from the workshop. If you are interested in attending, please contact Darrin Brownhill.

The French Technical Week will again be held at the usual location of La Sicaudrie in the Charente region of France, commencing on Friday 17th September and continuing into the following week. The event begins on the weekend of the famous Circuit Des Remparts vintage car race around the streets of Angouleme, and ends the following Sunday with a leisurely road rally through stunning scenery and a fabulous lunch in a lovely venue in the company of a local classic car club. In between these weekends, everyone gets on with whatever project they wish to work on at the accommodation site, further details of which can be found at www.lasicaudrie.co.uk. Prices vary from €10 per night for camping through to €50 per night for a double room B&B, plus €17 for a 4 course evening meal (inc. wine) & €6 for a light snack lunch. For additional information (or bookings) contact Steve Thompson.

All events are restricted to current Citroen Car Club members only.
