Steering

Principle

The DS steering is rack-and-pinion, assisted hydraulically.

The steering wheel simultaneously:

- turns the pinion:

- mechanically by direct contact in the event of loss of pressure,

- hydraulically using fluid pressure in the normal case,

- drives a distributor turning with the pinion.

The distributor sends pressurised fluid to one side of a piston connected to the rack, while the other side is under the atmospheric pressure.

The rack is pushed or pulled according to the rotation of the wheel.
